Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk or almond milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp whole milk or almond milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans (9 inches) and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and sugar until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix together eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool in their pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. In a large bowl, beat together softened butter and powdered sugar until fluffy; add milk as needed to achieve desired consistency.
  8. Once cakes are completely cool, frost generously between layers and cover the top and sides of the cake.
