Ingredients

  • 4 cups whole milk (or almond milk for dairy-free)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 cardamom pods, crushed
  • 2 tbsp rosewater
  • Crushed pistachios or almonds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, whole milk, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat while stirring frequently.
  3. Once simmering, add sugar and crushed cardamom pods. Stir until sugar dissolves completely.
  4. Lower the heat and cook gently for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened but still pourable.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in rosewater. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired.
  6. Transfer to bowls or dessert glasses and top with crushed pistachios or almonds before serving.
