Description
This delightful Thanksgiving stuffing features buttery croutons, aromatic herbs, and sautéed vegetables, creating a comforting side dish that enhances any holiday meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf French bread (stale or dried, cubed)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion (finely diced)
- 1 cup celery (chopped)
- 2 tbsp fresh sage (chopped) or 1 tbsp dried sage
- 2 tbsp fresh thyme (chopped) or 1 tbsp dried thyme
- 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a large mixing bowl and a greased baking dish.
- Cut the French bread into one-inch cubes. Let them sit out overnight or briefly dry them in the oven to ensure they absorb the broth without becoming mushy.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the diced onion and chopped celery, sautéing until softened, about five minutes.
- In your mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes with the sautéed onion and celery mixture. Stir in chopped sage and thyme until well mixed.
- Pour warmed chicken broth over the mixture until just moistened. Crack in the eggs and fold gently until everything is evenly combined.
- Transfer your stuffing into the greased baking dish, covering it with foil. Bake for about 30 minutes covered, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown on top.
