Description
This creamy, cheesy onion bake is the ultimate comfort food, delivering warmth and flavor in every bite. Perfect for gatherings or cozy evenings at home!
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup fresh bread crumbs (or panko)
- 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray or butter.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and two-thirds of the Gruyère and all of the Parmesan cheese until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- In your greased baking dish, layer half of the sautéed onions at the bottom. Pour half of the cream mixture over them, then sprinkle with some bread crumbs. Repeat these layers with the remaining onions and cream mixture.
- Finish by sprinkling the remaining Gruyère on top along with extra breadcrumbs for a crunchy finish.
- Place in your preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling. Serve hot as an appetizer or side dish.
