- 4 large yellow or sweet onions, sliced into thin rings
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup fresh bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and generously butter a baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Stir in half of the grated Gruyère cheese.
- Layer half of the caramelized onions in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over them. Repeat with another layer of onions and then pour the remaining cream mixture on top.
- Sprinkle fresh bread crumbs evenly over the top and add any remaining Gruyère cheese. Drizzle with melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
