Description

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened) for filling
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and granulated sugar. Sprinkle yeast over top and let sit until foamy (about five minutes).
  2. Add softened butter and egg; mix until well combined. Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about five minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled in size (approximately one hour).
  5. Punch down the risen dough gently and roll it out into a rectangle about half an inch thick on a floured surface.
  6. Spread softened butter over the rolled-out dough. In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle evenly over the buttered surface.
  7. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log shape. Pinch seams to seal; slice into twelve equal pieces.
  8. Place rolls cut-side up in a greased baking dish.
  9. Cover with plastic wrap or a damp cloth again, letting them rise until doubled in size (another thirty minutes). Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake for about twenty-five minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Allow rolls to cool slightly before spreading on frosting made by blending softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.
