Description
Indulge in this delightful blend of sweet caramel and refreshing peppermint, perfect for festive gatherings or cozy nights at home!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 cup crushed candy canes
Instructions
- 1. Pop your popcorn kernels using an air popper or stovetop method. If using stovetop, heat oil in a large pot before adding kernels. Once popped, place them in a large mixing bowl.
- 2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and unsalted butter. Stir continuously until it reaches a gentle boil.
- 3. Allow the mixture to simmer without stirring for about four minutes until it turns golden brown.
- 4. Remove from heat and quickly stir in peppermint extract and sea salt (be cautious as it will bubble up).
- 5. Pour the hot caramel sauce over the popped popcorn while gently stirring to coat each piece evenly.
- 6. Immediately sprinkle crushed candy canes over the warm popcorn mix so they stick well.
- 7. Spread the mixture onto parchment paper or wax paper and let it cool completely before breaking into bite-sized pieces.
