Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs (room temperature)
- 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (or milk if needed)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour two round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and granulated sugar. Whisk until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- In a mixing bowl, beat unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with heavy cream until light and fluffy.
- Once cooled completely, stack layers with frosting between them and cover the top and sides with remaining frosting. Slice generously to serve!
