Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool in pans for ten minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  5. While cakes cool, beat together softened butter and peanut butter in a bowl until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar followed by heavy cream until you reach a spreadable consistency.
  6. Once cooled completely, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of frosting on top before adding the second layer. Top with remaining frosting.
